We continued to visit Scottish castles. This time we went to see castle and gardens in Aberdour, Kingdom of Fife. This picturesque village is just 30 minutes away from Edinburgh centre by train.

Miasteczko Aberdour wyglada slicznie, zwlaszcza teraz gdy mozna podziwiac kwitnace latem rosliny jak np. Escallonia (Eskalonia), Ceanothus (nazwa polska znaleziona w internecie: Cenot, ale nigdy nie slyszalam ani nie widzialam tej rosliny w Polsce), Wisteria (Glicynia), Laburnum (Zlotokap) i wiele innych. Popularne rosliny do przydomowych ogrodkow.

The village of Aberdour looks beautiful, especially now when you can enjoy summer flowering plants e.g. Escallonia, Ceanothus (California lilac), Wisteria, Laburnum and many others. Popular choices for many front gardens.

Kiedy dotarlismy na miejsce usiedlismy na trawniku frontowego dziedzinca zamku. Adamski badal trawe i stokrotki (jak zwykle), Tata saczyl kawusie (jak zwykle) i prze jakis czas czytal ksiazke (kawa i dobra ksiazka to wedlug Fasola idealne sposob na spedzanie wolnego czasu, wlasnie czyta “Magiczna Gore” Thomasa Manna), a  ja probowalam opalic troche moje bladziutkie nogi, bez powodzenia nota bene.

When we riched our destination we sat on a lawn in the castle front yard. Adam explored grass and daisies (as usual), Daddy had his cuppa (as usual) and read his book for a  while (a coffee and a good book is kind of ultimate me time for him, he’s reading “The Magic Mauntain” by Thomas Mann at the moment) and I tried to get some tan on my pale legs:), with no success by the way.

After some relax in the sun we moved to the castle and surrounding gardens.

Zamek posiada imponujace ogrody tarasowe i golebnik w ksztalcie ula.

The castle has impressive terrace gardens and beehive type dovecot.

I ogrod otoczony murami. Mnostwo pnaczych: roze, Wisteria, Clematis, Parthenocissus i inne…

And a walled garden. Lots of climbing roses, Wisteria, Clematis, Parthenocissus and other climbers…

I ogromny wybor gatunkow Orlika (Aquilegia).

And realy huge selection of Columbine varieties (Aguilegia).

I niezwykla roslina: Asphodeline lutea. Nie znalam polskiej nazwy, ale sprawdzilam – Zlotnica zolta. Nigdy tej rosliny nie widzialam lub jej nie pamietam:) Tak czy siak: dla mnie wyjatkowa!

Some unusual plant: King’s Spear – Asphodeline lutea. To be honest I have never seen it before, or I don;t remember:) Either or: it’s extraordinary for me!

A ten Mak wschodni (Papaver orientale) byl po prostu SUPER!!! Mysle, ze to moze byc odmiana ‘Royal Wedding’… Sliczny.

This oriental poppy (Papaver orientale) was just WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I think it might be ‘Royal Wedding’ variety… Lovely.

Byc moze nie powalajaca ale jedna z moich ulubionych bylin: Alchemilla mollis (Przywrotnik ostroklapowy). Bylo strasznie goraco wiec rosliny byly nieco przywiedle i niestety nie bylo na nich rosy (Przywrotnik ostroklapowy z kropelkami rosy na lisciach jest typowym obrazkiem z ksiazki ogrodniczej).

Na razie tymczasowy. Zdjecia, ktore mielismy nie nadawaly sie do piecioletniego. Poza tym wyrobienie numeru PESEL (niezbednego do wyrobienia piecioletniego paszportu) w konsulacie kosztuje majatek, wiec poprosilismy Babcie Dorotke, zeby nam to zalatwila w Polsce.

W trakcie zalatwiania formalnosci nasz synek zapewnil wszystkim interesantom odrobine rozrywki. Zasnal w wozku i zaczal chrapac, bardzo bardzo glosno, wzbudzajac rozbawienie wsrod ludzi stojacych w kolejce ))

Aaa! I pani pracujaca w konsulacie byla bardzo mila i pomocna, mimo, ze my jak zwykle zakreceni! ))

We went to the Polish Consulate and applied for Adam’s passport, finally!

From all the visitor’s attractions Adam liked the castle hens the most.

I picked up Adam from the nursery just before six o’clock. The weather was pretty and Fasol was finishing work at eight so we decided to wait for him and get home all together. Adam sat comfortably on the lawn in front of the Scottish Parliament and “helped” me with my new crochet project. 

Po godzince troche nam sie znudzilo i ruszylismy do ogrodu Dunbars Close nieopodal. Ogrod ten zalozono w 1977 roku na modle XXVII-wieczna, kiedy to Mushroom Trust przekazalo go wladzom miasta.

After one hour we get a wee bit bored and we set off to Dunbars Close Gardens nearby. It was established in 1977 in the character of 17th century garden when it was donated by the Mushroom Trust to City of Edinburgh.

Wstapilismy na cmentarz Kosciola Canongate aby obejrzec kwitnace drzewa wisni. 

We poped into Canongate Kirk Yard to look at the cherry trees in full bloom.

A chwile po osmej tata wreszcie skonczyl prace i poszlismy razem do domu!

And minutes after eight /daddy finally finished his work for today and we went home together!

First we took a train to North Berwick (very popular amongst Edinburghians seaside place) then we catch a bus (the castle is 3 miles away from North Berwick).  A moment after we get to our destination point.

Zamek zostal wybudowany w polowie XIV wieku jako forteca obronna. Od strony ladu zamek otoczony byl poteznym murem obronnym, z innych stron  byl chroniony przed najezdzcami dzieki stromym klifom nadmorskim.

Tantallon Castle was built in mid 14th century as a fortress. There was a wall blocking off the headland and other sides were naturally protected by sea cliffs.

Zamek wybudowal William Douglas. I mimo burzliwej historii pozostal w rekach klanu Douglasow az do roku 1699, kiedy to zamek zostal przez nich sprzedany.
Dzisiaj ruiny zamku Tantallon znajduja sie pod opieka Historic Scotland.

Z zamku widac Bass Rock gdzie zyje pokazna kolonia gluptakow (10% populacji swiatowej tych ptakow!)

From the castle you can see the Bass Rock where there is a huge colony of gannets (10% of all world population of these birds!)

Jesli przyjzec sie jeszcze blizej mozna zobaczyc latarnie morska wybudowana w 1903 roku.

If you look even closer you can see a lighthouse build in 1903.

Wszedzie rosna dzikie laki. Ladnie to wyglada, bardzo wiosennie!
 
Here and there, eveywhere – wild wallflowers! Nice.

Na terenie zamku znajduje sie rowniez golebnik (golebie byly dodatkowym zrodlem miesa dla dworu).
W budynku tym sa wydzielone malutkie przegrodki dla ptasich par. Golebie sie rozmnazaly… a sluzba dworska podkradala i jaja, i dorosle osobniki, jesli tylko byla taka potrzeba.

On the castle grounds there is also a dovecot (pigeons were additional source of meat for the court).
In the buiding there are several compartments for birds couples. The pigeons were breeding… and court servants were pilfering eggs and adults whenever needed.

Po zwiedzeniu zamku wrocilismy autobusem do North Berwick na lunch. Potem maly spacerem po miasteczku i do domu!
Naprawde bardzo mily dzien:)

And after our trip to Duddingston we went to Portobello, to see the seaside.
We went for a wee something to a coffee house. We had a piece of “Mississippi Mud” cake, Fasol had a coffee, traditionally:) I had hot chocolate, traditionally:P

And then we went to the beach…
